কালের পুতুল - Kaler Putul
10 apparent strangers arrive at a remote resort and are received by a caretaker. The host was supposed to meet them at lunch. Instead, at lunch they are greeted by a strange message, accusing of each them to be a murderer. And the message ends with an ominous note – death penalty for their crime.
Some of the guests recognize the premise. It resembles the plot of a very famous mystery novel. Considering the whole event an elaborate prank they want to leave. But the only way out of the resort was destroyed, leaving them stranded.
And then the killings began.
Panic, suspicion and accusations ensue. Probing into the past of each guest does not help. Neither does familiarity with the story. Because the real events do not follow sequence of the fiction. Will anyone survive? Or will it end the way the original narrative ended, where there were none?

I have always maintained that a good film should be able to transcend genre and function in multiple levels. My first film “Kaler Putul” should attest to this belief.
For this film I drew inspirations from John Ford and Alfred Hitchcock. Both genre directors, but while making studio films they never compromised on artistic value and always managed to leave an indelible personal signature.
My aim is to make this film work on various layers; a taut thriller on the top, a social commentary in the next and a philosophical allegory on the last. I am also fascinated by the idea of challenging the pre conceived notion by deconstructing a familiar narrative.
Apart from aiming at artistic excellence this film aims to break new grounds and challenge the pre conceived notion of the audience by deconstructing a familiar narrative.
The narrative also provides a rare opportunity to work with an ensemble cast, actors bringing diverse acting backgrounds, experiences and temperament.
This is also my tribute to all the great filmmakers that shaped my thinking.
